Design & Technology

The Design Technology curriculum is a highly practical curriculum focusing on the sequence of designing, making, and evaluating products with technical knowledge running throughout, encouraging pupils to use their creativity and imagination to make products that solve real and relevant problems.

Knowledge and Skills focus on the following areas.

Structures

Textiles

Mechanisms

Food

Electrical

Pupils are taught practical skills such cutting, shaping, joining and finishing using a wide range of materials.

There is also a unit covering cooking and nutrition where pupils are taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating.

Cooking is an important life skill and the most valuable skills you can teach a child. Why not help your child to get excited about food, where it comes from and how to cook it at home.

The progression of skills document maps out the skills pupils should know by year group and we encourage you to help your child develop these skills at home.
