Welcome to Hedgehog’s Summer Term Two
The Hedgehogs Team:
Mrs Draper teaches Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Shepherd teaches Thursday and Friday. Mrs Celik is our class Teaching Assistant every day and Mrs Taylor teaches interventions every day. Mrs Lynham also supports our class every day.
In Hedgehog class, the children work in ways that will keep them focused and engaged. The children can access a variety of independent learning opportunities throughout the day, using different resources and activities that are available around the classroom. During more focused learning, for example Reading, Writing and Maths the children work in mixed groups with an adult to support them if needed.
We promote a lot of independence in class to support and enhance the children’s life skills as they grow and the children are always busy with lots of independent learning through our ‘Continuous Provision’. Each week the children have new challenges in lots of areas of our classroom and outside including: Phonics, Magic Maths, Finger Gym, Role Play, Tuff Spot, Reading Corner and Construction. The children in Hedgehogs class are also very fortunate to have access to the wonderful outside area to enjoy.
P.E is on a Friday afternoon and children will need to come to school in their P.E kits on this day every week.
Our Topic this term is history based ‘Why is the history of my locality significant?‘ We are focusing on one historical figure, Robert Kett and asking questions such as ‘why do we remember Robert Kett?’ See our curriculum map for more details. This learning starts on Monday 14th June. If you would like to support your child’s understanding of Robert Ketts rebellion you could drive along the old A11 near Wymondham and visit Ketts oak. Or you could take a walk around Wymondham retracing Robert Ketts steps or visit Norwich castle and Bishops Gate.

Please find below some information about the next half term in Year 1. There are some ideas for you to do at home to support with English and Maths too.
Across the year we will be working to reliably use and spell the Key Stage 1 common exception words – these are words which are exceptions to spelling pattern or phonics rules that may come up in our writing. If your child is not yet confident with the Reception word list please give those words some extra time and attention. Please support your child to read the words on their list and then spell them. We will check these towards the end of term.

Children’s News Day
Children’s ‘news’ is part of their ‘speaking and listening’. This could be photos from a day out, something they have made that they are proud of or a family celebration. Anything which is important to them which they can talk about. You can send photos via email to the office so that we can show them on the interactive whiteboard. Thank you for your support with this, we enjoy hearing your children’s news very much.
