Summer 2 Panda Class Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely week off and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We have got a fantastic final term ahead of us planned.

We have got some really exciting units planned. Our new topic is ‘The Iron Age’ which builds upon our previous history lessons. In this topic we will explore different artefacts and archeological remains to help us build a picture of what life was like in Iron Age Britain. In English, we will be writing our own discussion texts and wishing tales, before finishing off with the famous poem ‘The sound collector’. We will be covering many maths units this term, including time, mass and capacity, as well as recapping the basic areas of number and place value.

Excitingly, we will be learning to play the recorder in class. This is to support your child in learning musical notation as well as providing them with the opportunity to learn a new instrument. You will receive a separate letter about this.

Our PSHE unit this term will be looking at the changes that happen from birth to life as an adult. The children will understand how babies grow and will be able to explain the changes that happen inside boy’s and girl’s bodies so that they can have babies. If you have any questions regarding the content of our lessons, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Our PE continues to take place on Wednesdays and this term focuses on striking games and athletics, to prepare us for sports day (25th June). Your child should continue to come to school dressed in the appropriate school PE kit please.

Please remind your children to bring in their wellies and jackets. Although the weather is improving, we must be prepared for all possible conditions.

Home learning

  • As in previous terms, spellings will be tested every Friday. A copy of the 6-week spelling overview will be sent home with your child, but these can also be accessed here: summer 2 spelling overview.  Please also continue to practice the year 3/4 statutory spellings: Y3 and 4 stat spellings
  • Times tables are becoming even more important. I have seen many children begin to create their own resources to support their learning, but please practice these in any way you feel is beneficial. Our Key Instant Recall facts for this term are as follows: KIRF- Summer 2
  • Reading should happen every day and it is important that you discuss the materials you and your children are reading together. Please continue to bring in reading records on Thursdays so these can be checked.

If you have any questions, please contact me via email and I will respond as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Alice Hunt.
