Welcome back after what I hope has been a restful couple of weeks for you. Once again, we are very grateful for your support and look forward to the term ahead of us.

We have got some fantastic learning opportunities coming up over this half term. Our new topic will have us exploring the term ‘Megacities’ to discover what these are and comparing the advantages and disadvantages of them.  In English we will begin our talk for writing us by looking at problem and resolution texts, before moving on to poetry and finding tales. In Maths, we will be completing our work on fractions which has been a tricky topic for most, before moving onto time and shape.

This term we will be producing a short class assembly about the Stone Age. Although you will not be able to come into school to watch your children perform live, a link will be provided so that you can watch this virtually. More details will follow shortly.

Our key Instant Recall facts for this term can be found here: Year 3 KIRF’s

Forest school will no longer take place in the usual way. Instead, it will be replaced by the learning tree and premier sport on Tuesdays. This programme is designed to help children explore resilience, incorporate social learning settings and inspire individuals. Please ensure your children come in with their usual forest school clothing. Footwear must be trainers.

Our PE continues to take place on Wednesdays and this term we will continue to develop our throwing and catching skills before beginning to integrate these into a game of basketball. Your child should continue to come to school dressed in the appropriate PE kit please.

Although we move into the warmer months, please ensure your child has wellies at school as without these they may not be allowed onto the field at break and lunch times.

Home learning

  • Spellings will be tested every Friday. A copy of the 7-week spelling overview has been sent home with each child. summer 1 spelling overview
  • Please continue to practice your year 3/4 statutory spellings when possible. The children have made fantastic progress in their spellings thus far but need regular practice to maintain this.
  • Times tables will be a great focus for us this term. Please continue to practice these at home, as this will help with recall.
  • Reading should take place every day and it is important that you ask your children questions about the material that they are reading to support comprehension and ignite curiosity.

If you have any questions, please contact me via the class email and I will respond as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Alice Hunt
