Tarantula Class (Year 3)

Welcome to our class page!

Class Teacher: Mr Brown
Teaching Assistant: Miss Hardiment
1:1 Teaching Assistant: Mrs Lynam

Dear parents,

Welcome back after the Easter break. Myself, Miss Hardiment and Mrs Lynam all hope you have had some well-earned time off with your children and families, whatever you did or wherever you went over the holiday.

The first half term will last for just under 5 weeks weeks and will finish for half term on Friday 24th May. We will return for Summer term 2 on Monday 3rd June.

Curriculum overview

Our main topic this half term is the Anglo Saxons. This will feed into many areas of the Y3 curriculum for the next 6 weeks. In English, we will write problem-resolution stories, initially by looking at the legend of Arthur and Excalibur, as part of the Talk for Writing programme. Later in the half term, we will create persuasion texts. In Maths, we will finish off our Length module, before moving on to Fractions and Time. We will also continue to practice our times tables, with a special focus on 3x, 4x, 8x, 50x and 100x.

Science will see us investigate light – looking at the difference between light and dark, how shadows are created and how reflections work. In History, we will look at the Anglo Saxons and the Scots, beginning with their presence in Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire and moving on to their culture, villages, weapons and language. In a joint Art-DT topic, Y3 will research, design and build their own Anglo Saxon shields. In French, we will look at greetings and numbers to 20. This half term, Mrs Baker will be delivering PSHE (Relationships) and RE (Sikhism) on Tuesday afternoons. Forest School for Year 3 will conclude in Summer term 2.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning that you would like to discuss with me, please aim to come and speak to me either before 8.30 in the morning, or at the end of the school day. Between 8.30 and 8.45 every morning, all teaching staff at Old Buckenham have a meeting with their teaching assistants, which is a crucial opportunity to discuss learning for the day and to decide on strategies to support specific children. These meetings also happen in Year 3 and are important to make sure we are supporting children in the right ways. As far as you can, please avoid coming to see me during this time.

Thank you for your co-operation and support in your child’s learning.
