Welcome to our class page!
Class Teacher: Mr Brown
Teaching Assistant: Miss Hardiment
1:1 Teaching Assistant: Mrs Reed
Welcome back after the Christmas break – myself, Miss Hardiment and Mrs Reed hope that you and your children had a relaxing time away from school, whatever you did and wherever you went.
The first half term of the 2018-19 academic year will last for just over 6 weeks and will finish on Friday 15th February. We will return for Spring term 2 on Monday 25th February.
Welcome back after the Christmas and New Year break. Myself, Miss Hardiment and Mrs Reed all hope you have had some well-earned time off with your children and families, whatever you did or wherever you went over the holidays.
Our main topic this half term is Explorers. This will feed into many areas of the Y3 curriculum for the next 6 weeks. In English, we will write journey stories based on Elf Road by Pie Corbett, as part of the Talk for Writing programme. Later in the half term, we will create recount texts and even write a spot of poetry!
In Maths, we will start to conclude our addition subtraction (estimation and using the inverse to check answers). Later on, we will move on to multiplication and division. We will also continue to practice our times tables, with a special focus on 4x, 8x, 50x and 100x.
Science will see us investigate rocks by looking at different rock types, investigating how fossils are created and exploring how soil is formed. In History, we will focus on explorers such as Mary Anning, Walter Raleigh and Ranulph Fiennes. In Art, we will sketch some rocks and fossils, before creating our own fossilised creations using plaster of Paris. In DT, we will create display stands for our fossils ahead of the ‘You Are Invited’ parents’ session (more info below). In Music, Year 3 will learn about the ‘inter-related dimensions of music’, which is quite a fancy term for musical elements like rhythm, pitch, tempo, and others. This half term, Mrs Baker will be delivering PSHE and RE on Tuesday afternoons. Forest School for Year 3 will resume in Spring term 2. PE this term covers Gymnastics and will take place inside on Monday afternoons.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning that you would like to discuss with me, please aim to come and speak to me either before 8.30 in the morning, or at the end of the school day. Between 8.30 and 8.45 every morning, all teaching staff at Old Buckenham have a meeting with their teaching assistants, which is a crucial opportunity to discuss learning for the day and to decide on strategies to support specific children. These meetings also happen in Year 3 and are important to make sure we are supporting children in the right ways. As far as you can, please avoid coming to see me during this time.
Thank you for your co-operation and support in your child’s learning.
