Welcome to our class page!
Class Teacher: Mr Brown
Teaching Assistant: Miss Hardiment
1:1 Teaching Assistant: Mrs Lynam
Welcome back after the half term break. Myself, Miss Hardiment and Mrs Lynam all hope you have had some well-earned time off with your children and families, whatever you did or wherever you went over the holiday.
The second half term of the 2018-19 academic year will last for just over 6 weeks and will finish for Easter on Friday 5th April. We will return for Summer term 1 on Tuesday 23rd April.
Our main topic this half term is a local study of Old Buckenham. This will feed into many areas of the Y3 curriculum for the next 6 weeks. In English, we will begin with wishing stories, as part of the Talk for Writing programme. Later in the half term, we will create explanation texts and some poetry. In Maths, we will start to conclude our work on multiplication and division. After this, we will move on to money and statistics. We will also continue to practice our times tables, with a special focus on 4x, 8x, 50x and 100x.
Our Science topic is ‘Animals including humans’, with a particular focus on skeletons and nutrition / diet. In Geography, we will conduct a local study of Old Buckenham – if you, or anyone you know, can help us with learning about the geography (and history!) of Old Buckenham, we would be very grateful. In Art, we will look at anatomical drawings of human bones, looking at the work of Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo. In ICT, we will continue our work from the Autumn term about being good digital citizens and keeping ourselves safe online. This half term, Year 3 will have Forest School on Tuesday afternoons; please ensure your child brings their full FS kit into school each week.
Here are some documents that you may find useful: a copy of the class timetable and a copy of our class newsletter.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning that you would like to discuss with me, please aim to come and speak to me either before 8.30 in the morning, or at the end of the school day. Between 8.30 and 8.45 every morning, all teaching staff at Old Buckenham have a meeting with their teaching assistants, which is a crucial opportunity to discuss learning for the day and to decide on strategies to support specific children. These meetings also happen in Year 3 and are important to make sure we are supporting children in the right ways. As far as you can, please avoid coming to see me during this time.
Thank you for your co-operation and support in your child’s learning.
